SEED BELLS FOR PARROTS
If you
buy birdseed shapes for your birds you could inadvertently be
poisoning them. Some shapes are made with glue not gelatine. The
safest
way
is to make your own.
The
ingredients are: birdseed, water and gelatine, using 75% seed to
20% water and 5% gelatine.
* Heat
water in a saucepan to approximately 60 degrees centigrade.
* Slowly
add gelatine and stir to a smooth consistency.
* Allow
to cool slightly.
* Add
birdseed to the gelatine mixture and gently blend. Allow to stand
for 30 minutes to soak up excess moisture.
* Press
the mixture tightly into moulds, incorporating suitable wire
hangers.
* Make
sure all the air bubbles have been pressed out.
*
Refrigerate overnight, then release from the mould.
* Hang
or stand the shapes in a warm dry place.
* It's
important to ensure the seed shapes are dried properly to avoid
them becoming mouldy
