DISEASES & INJURIES

Warning: Some of the pictures below are graphic and may upset some people.

kangarooline

tortoise

This Long Neck Tortoise was bought into Fauna Rescue by the RSPCA. She was hit by a car and sustained a nasty crack in her shell and had a bleeding wound. She was treated by a vet who fixed her shell and has put her on a course of antibiotics. She appears to be a tame tortoise so a new home has been found for her.

joey broken leg

This joey came into Fauna Rescue. It had been found in it's dead mothers pouch after she was hit and killed by a car. His leg was badly broken as you can see in the picture above. Unfortunately the injury was too severe for Fauna Rescue to rear the joey. This joey had to be euthanased.

musk lorikeet

This Musk Lorikeet came into Fauna Rescue with a terrible disease known as Granulomatous Mite. The lorikeet was in very bad condition and was euthansed.
It is recognised by creamy coloured, dry growths on the wings, back and head of the lorikeet. It is caused by a mite and is highly contagious. The bird can become very stressed as it causes irritation of the parasite in the feather follicle. Any bird found in this condition needs to be taken to a vet straight away.
